Craig T. Nelson (born Craig Theodore Nelson; April 4, 1944-) is an American actor best known for his roles as Steve Freeling in Poltergeist (1982) and Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986), Hayden Fox in the Award-winning TV series Coach (1989-1997), and Mr. Incredible in The Incredibles (2004).

Biography

Nelson was born in Spokane, Washington the son of a businessman and a dancer. Nelson has a brown belt in karate, and played football and baseball in high school. He dropped out of two colleges before receiving a drama scholarship at the University of Arizona. Nelson started out as a comedian. In 1973, Nelson left standup comedy, finding it "unfulfilling", and settled in Mount Shasta. During this time Nelson was a janitor, plumber, carpenter, surveyer, and teacher, returning to acting five years later. Nelson played in episodes of Charlie's Angels (1978), Wonder Woman (1978), and movies such as ...And Justice For All (1979), Stir Crazy (1980), Private Benjamin (1980), and others before starring in Poltergeist (1982), in his first major role, and was propelled into stardom after. Nelson starred in several movies and television series after.
