History[]

Michael arrives in Santa Carla with his mother, Lucy and younger brother, Sam, to live with their grandfather after his parents divorce and Lucy's financial struggles. He quickly discovers his grandfathers weirdness and embarks out to the pier at night, where he sees a beautiful girl enjoying the live band performance. Michael continues to explore the boardwalk in the days prior, buying a new leather jacket and considering an ear piercing when the girl he is interested in playfully approaches him, she introduces herself as Star and he offers her a ride on his bike when the local troublemakers arrive, David and his biker gang. He tells Star to get on his bike and offers Michael a chance to ride with them.

As they drive through the pier, Michael is taunted by David and is almost tricked into driving off a cliff. Michael confronts David and is invited to their secret hideout located underneath a cliff. David tricks Michael and the group laughs. He is then offers a drink from a wine bottle but Star tells him it's blood and he has a choice not to drink it, but he does so anyway. Michael runs off with David and the gang, doing a series of couragous challenges - one being hanging from train tracks hundreds of feet in the air. They all drop one by one and eventually, Michael does too but is shocked when he survives.

The next day, he wakes up in the afternoon feeling differently and needing sunglasses to be around the sun. While Sam is bathing, Michael suddenly develops an urge for blood and goes to attack his brother but is held off by their dog. Sam goes to see what's wrong with him and deduces that he is a vampire and flees in horror. Sam calls their mother for help but Michael convinces him not too. He goes back to see Star and ask what is going on. She can't say much but tells him about the blood he drank and they share an intimate moment and sleep together.

Michael goes with David and his gang to observe a group partying on the beach. As Michael watches, they slaughter the partygoers brutally and tempt Michael to join them and complete his transformation into a vampire but he refuses and runs off and returns home. Back at his house, he hears Star approaching from outside and within an instant, she appears in Sam's bedroom with him, revealing herself as a vampire. He is angered by this reveal and she tells him she is only half, like him as they haven't killed yet. Star begs him for help in escaping David's gang but he laughs and sends her away.

The next day, Michael teams up with Sam and two vampire hunters, the Frog brothers, to rescue Star. They return to the hideout and Michael safely takes Star and a child half-vampire Laddie to his car while Sam and the brother take care of the vampires. They stake Marko but David wakes and tries to attack them/ They flee in the car back to the Emerson house and prepare for an attack.

David and the remaining members of his gang arrive at the house and terrorise them. In the basement, David ambushes Michael and the two square off in a head-to-head fight, prompting Michael to use his full powers against him. In a struggle, Michael manages to overpower David and impales him on deer antlers, killing him. Star and Michael realise that despite killing who they thought was the head vampire, nothing has changed.

Lucy returns home with her boyfriend Max to the chaos and Max reveals himself to be the head vampire all along. They all fight him when Michael's grandfather bursts through the door in his truck and Michael pushes him into the path of oncoming wooden stakes. Max dies in a messy explosion and Michael embraces Star as they are not human again.
