Ruggero Deodato (1939-) is an Italian director who started his controversial horror career when he served as an assistant director on Antonio Margheriti's The Castle Of Terror (1963). He served as assistant director again on the Poe-inspired Castle Of Blood (1964) before making his official directorial debut with Last Cannibal World (1977). Similar themes of cannibalism were present in his next work - the shocking and infamously gruesome video nasty Cannibal Holocaust (1980). Epitomizing the golden age of violent Italian horror flicks, Deodato followed this movie with the much-censored House On The Edge Of The Park (1980), which aroused further controversy for its scenes of prolonged, gory torture. Branded a cynical misanthrope for his extremely violent work, Deodato's last notable effort was Cut And Run (1985). The man is currently working on a return to his beloved cannibal genre with Cannibals, which is scheduled for release in 2010.
